Jim - Client Care Manager
Jim, one of our Client Care Managers, came to Family Pet in 2002. It was our good fortune that he wanted to give up his previous career in dog walking to work at our front desk! Jim always goes the extra mile for our clients and his fellow staff members.
Lilly - Client Care Manager
Lilly came to FPAH in October 2010 with a background in management and accounting. A true administrative professional, Lilly works hard to make every client and patient's experience here is as perfect as possible!
Kate - Assistant Client Care Manager
Kate graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (I-L-L!) in 2008, and worked as a technician at DuPage Co. Animal Care and Control for 4 years. After moving into the city, Kate began working at Family Pet early in 2013. With her wealth of experience and terrific personality, she’s been a wonderful addition to our team.
Michelle - Tech Staff Manager, Cat Advocate
Michelle, one of our Technical Staff Managers, came to FPAH fresh from school in August 1993. Starting as kennel staff, she was trained in-house by our own doctors to assist in anesthesia and dentistry, and has become a pillar of the Family Pet team.
Tony - Tech Staff Manager
Tony, one of our Technician Managers, joined Family Pet right after we opened in 1990, earning him the FPAH employment-longevity record. Trained over the years by Rae Ann and Marla right here at Family Pet, he is an expert in handling our more frightened or less cooperative patients; a respected manager who leads by example in dedication, work ethic, and necessary good humor; and a skilled technician whom our clients trust implicitly.
Sandy - Finance & HR Manager
Sandy has over 30 years of accounting experience and has done the accounting for FPAH since we opened in 1990. In November of 2004, she left a certified accounting firm to come aboard full time at FPAH as the financial manager.
Linda - Practice Manager
Linda, Family Pet's Practice Manager, joined the team in February of 2013. She received her B.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University. After years of an unfulfilling career as a software engineer, she took a major career detour into the world of pets. She worked as a veterinary technician prior to being recruited for the core start-up team of the high-end, award-winning pet resort, Paradise 4 Paws. Linda played a critical role in launching, defining, and shaping Paradise 4 Paws, where she ultimately served as General Manager. She brings to Family Pet her penchant for delivering the highest quality pet and client care.
Brett – Cat Advocate
Brett joined FPAH in 2010 with a background in fine art. Check out his website www.edentonstudios.com to look at some of his beautiful paintings "in the realist traditions of the old masters."
Jessica began working at Family Pet in July of 2014 while finishing her undergraduate degree in Biology, which she’s now completed. Previously, she worked as a dog daycare attendant and has been a dog/cat/house sitter since 2008. Zenna, a rescued pitbull mix, is the love of Jessica’s life, but she still finds room in her heart for Timmy and Tony, two rescued cats that live with her. In her spare time, she loves nerding out by reviewing her old chemistry course materials and plans to pursue a graduate degree in organic chemistry.
Lucy, originally from Hawaii, holds a degree in molecular biology and biochemistry from Colorado College. We’re lucky she decided to be a long way away from her tropical home and join the team at Family Pet in September of 2015. Her favorite part of working at FPAH is watching sick patients bounce back to their normal, happy selves after treatment. At home, her orange tabby definitely enjoys warming laps and telling lots of stories.
Jessica joined Family Pet in November of 2015 and has a degree in Business Administration from DePaul University. Her love of animals, her family’s history of fostering dogs, along with her interest in business led her to us. She currently has four dogs (three of them are foster failures!) – Cody and Trooper (German Shepherds), Burrley (Border Collie mix), and Fiona (Pitbull/Boxer) – and a snake. What she loves most about working at FPAH is how we embody the “family” in our name – from the way we treat each other to the way we treat our clients and patients.
Kat, who holds a B.A. in Psychology from Saint Xavier University, came to Family Pet in September of 2016. Her years of customer service and management experience in various industries, her calm and steady presence, and the fact that her pet peeve is "people who don't accept accountability for their actions" make her a wonderful addition to our Client Care team.
Kamilla joined the Family Pet team in December of 2017. She has worked previously as a hair stylist (she claims she felt like a therapist most days and loved bonding with her clients), salon receptionist, and hostess/server in the restaurant industry. Working at Family Pet has allowed her to combine her love of connecting with people and her passion for the well-being of animals. She is the proud dog mom of Maggie, a Lhasa Apso, and Bailey, a Cockapoo. We're patiently waiting for her to offer her mad hair-styling skills to her co-workers.
Looking for work that was more personally fulfilling and meaningful, Sam came to Family Pet in February of 2018. She holds a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from Columbia College Chicago. In addition to her graphic design experience, Sam has multiple years of customer service experience in various industries. She brings to Family Pet her passion for making meaningful connections with clients and caring for pets. She is "mom" to an orange tabby named Watney.
Clara took on a role as a Client Care Coordinator with Family Pet in April of 2018 as a way to meld her previous work experiences in customer service, administration, and animal care. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and has had a plethora of experiences conducting research and/or volunteering around the country or abroad in the areas of conservation, farming, and animal behavior. She is a pet parent to a cat named "Kitty" and two dogs, Lily (Jack Russell) and Cleo (a lab mix).
Janet - Head Technician, Cat Advocate
Janet, Family Pet's Head Technician, joined our team in October 2001, coming to us with a BS in Veterinary Technology. She has been a certified veterinary technician (RVT) since 1991. In addition to her devotion to daily patient care and to keeping our lab in perfect condition at all times, Janet also has a major role in the development and maintenance of our electronic medical records system. While clients may not often see her face in the exam room, Janet plays a part in the care of nearly every animal who comes through our doors!
Emmanuel came to Family Pet in March of 2008 with several years of both retail and kennel assistant experience. He currently works at FPAH and Cook County Animal Care and Control. His steady hand and calm presence in the care of our patients along with his constant good humor make him a necessary and appreciated part of our team.
Katie joined FPAH in October 2010 from Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio, after working/interning at the Shedd Aquarium. She was a dedicated Client Care Coordinator on our team for several years before returning to school to pursue her Associates in Veterinary Technology. We are delighted she’s joined our technical team as one of our certified veterinary technicians.
Emily joined FPAH in June 2011, and is one of our part-time kennel assistants. Always busy and hard at work, Emily makes sure all of our patients are fed and walked, have fresh soft bedding and clean litter pans, and an extra dose of hugs & pets. Her full-time job is as a sophomore at the School of the Art Institute, working on her BFA with an emphasis in Art Education.
Sandy joined FPAH in October 2011, coming to us with a Bachelors Degree in Biology from St Xavier University in Chicago and her CVT from Joliet Junior College Veterinary Technician Program.

Jessica has worked in veterinary medicine since 1999, been a certified veterinary technician since 2010, and joined the FPAH team in May of 2014. She is also a surgical technician at MedVet Chicago. In addition to having her own small zoo at home – Olive and Duke (Boston Terriers), Attila (Pitbull mix), and multiple cats – she has worked with wildlife, including lions and cheetahs in Namibia Africa and with migratory birds here in Chicago through Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation.
Armando joined the Family Pet team in February of 2015 with over a decade of experience as a Veterinary Assistant. He is always working hard to ensure our patients get what they need. He’s also our prescription food inventory manager, so give him a holler if your pet needs something!
Erica studied veterinary technology at Fox College and has been a certified veterinary technician since 2011. Originally from the Chicago area, she lived and worked as a technician in Nashville between 2012 and 2015. Lucky for us, she decided to move back to Chicago and join the Family Pet team in July of 2015. She’s the proud mom of Achilles (Doberman/Beagle mix) along with three cats - Bacci, Meeko, and Sebastian. Erica, who often works in our laboratory, spends a lot of time thinking about how we, as a society, can raise our environmental awareness and sense of responsibility (these thoughts come as she stares at the copious amounts of reusable plastic in which fecal samples coming into the lab are wrapped)…
Sarah has a BFA in Theatre Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. She accidentally ended up in Chicago and we’re so glad she did. She joined Family Pet in September of 2015 as a Kennel and Administrative Assistant, offering help in whatever department is in need at any given moment. Of working at FPAH, she says “the people who work here really make it worthwhile! It’s a definite community with a productive and driven energy.” Outside of Family Pet, she is a Chicago actor, enjoying classical works like Shakespeare and Chekhov, along with movement and combat-based theatre.
Alba was very excited to join the Family Pet team as a Kennel Assistant in September of 2015. She says the feeling of helping pets and sharing the same love of these creatures with her co-workers is “awesome.” She has an American Eskimo named Nirvana, two cats named Sally and Binx, along with a hamster named Pinkman.
Monica is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) hailing from California. Lucky for us, her life led her to Chicago and she joined our team in April of 2016. She claims that baking is one of her hobbies...but we have not yet reaped major benefits from this alleged claim. We're waiting...
Casandra joined Family Pet in January of 2014. She holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is currently working on her M.A in Zoology. She has a wealth of knowledge and true love of animals which is demonstrated by her extensive work and volunteer experiences, including the John G. Shedd Aquarium, Community Animal Rescue Effort of Evanston, Cosley Zoo, and the Brookfield Zoo. Casandra, originally hired as part of Client Care team, was crucial in the piloting and development of a new hybrid role of Doctor's Assistant (D.A.). In March of 2017, she was promoted to D.A. Supervisor.
Sarah joined the Family Pet team in June of 2013. She holds a B.S. in Biology with a minor in chemistry from Millikin University.
Billie, who originally hails from Belgium, joined the Family Pet team in January of 2017. She holds a M.A. in Corporate Communications from KU Leuven and an additional M.A. in Cultural Studies from the University of Illinois. Her previous work experience includes educational advising, leading customer service teams, as well as event management. However, her passion for animals drew her to volunteer opportunities with pets during her spare time. We’re glad she decided she wanted to work with pets all the time.
Ryn came to Family Pet in March of 2017 with ten years of customer service experience, the most recent years being in pet care. Ryn has been surrounded by animals her whole life and her family currently has six Shiba Inus! During her interview process, she noted how many of the staff members at Family Pet say that their favorite parts of working here are their co-workers and the way the word "family" is really embodied throughout our hospital. We're glad she's become a part of the Family pet family.
